My grandparents had the most wonderful HUGE oak tree behind their little country store. Built around the base of it was a platform (somewhat like a deck) where all of the farmers could sit to eat and visit. For me and my cousins, the wraparound bench provided hours of entertainment as a ship or a raft floating through the rapids.
Just above the bench near the backside of the oak tree, my daddy provided a wonderful rope swing with a wooden board as a seat. We wrapped our legs around the rope that went through a hole in the center of the board.
I spent more hours than I could count swinging my troubles away on that swing.
With both legs I pushed away from the oak …
Gravity always brought me back …
I was like a giddy pendulum enjoying the freedom that childhood provided.
My sweetest childhood memories were made at my grandparent’s home …
Stop.
You may have guessed, but I am linking with Lisa-Jo for her 5 Minute Friday. She provides the prompt and we write for 5 minutes to see what flows out. Today’s prompt is: TREE.

(The photo above is not of an oak tree, but of a persimmon tree stretching over our home.)
Here is a recent photo of my daughter enjoying her rope swing … I pray her memories will be even sweeter than mine.
So very beautiful 🙂 We have trees like that here too and rope swings on trees are a treasured comfort.
What a beautiful photo! Both the skies & the tree declare the glories of God! Enjoyed reading your memories of grandparents. Visiting from FMF 🙂
Blessings,
Joanne
