Ok now, what is the deal?!?!? I typed in “Senior Citizens” in my browser and these are the types of pictures I saw. With that said — DO I LOOK THIS OLD?!?!!? Ok, don’t answer me IF you think I do. Ignorance is bliss!
Not that there is anything wrong with being a senior! Those folks earn every gray hair — a crown some might say, right?
Well, the reason I’m a bit in a tizzy is because I was just at Kohl’s … one of my favorite places to shop, and this guy stopped in front of me (as I was pushing my daughter in a buggy) and said, “IS THIS SENIOR CITIZEN’S DAY WITH 50% OFF OF EVERYTHING?” My mouth opened … and somehow I push out, “I wouldn’t have a clue!” In his excitement he quickly walked away and said, “I SURE HOPE SO!” Growl! Immediately I thought, “Why did he ask ME?”
Get behind me Satan! Hmph! Ok, before I get some anonymous message that I’ve called someone the devil — I didn’t! But the thoughts that man gave me were from the devil, that’s for sure. Immediately I began to wonder, “Gee, how old do I look?!?!?!” This comes on the tail of my sweet friend Deanna (pictured in the right side column of my blog) being asked if she was enrolling as one of the freshman at her daughter’s college! Hello!
I thought you would all (especially the women) appreciate this and get a giggle. All I have to say is HOW RUDE! Of course this guy was probably just asking the only person in his path (that is my story and I’m stickin’ to it!!!!). He didn’t look old enough to be a senior citizen either. Strange. Again … get behind ME! (This would have been perfect for the “Not Me Monday” Meme. I sure do miss it.)
Don’t feel sorry for me. I thought this was funny and wanted to share my giggle.
I bet he was looking for someone nice and polite who would answer his question instead of brushing him off. Thats my guess.
I have to laugh, Beth, ONLY because almost the same exact thing happened to my sister-in-law recently at Kohl’s. What’s with that place? She was totatlly depressed because when she got to the checkout, the cashier asked if she’d like her Senior Discount! She’s only 52! She was mortified! She called me soon after it happened and I about blasted sweet tea right out my nose!
Maybe that guy was wishing that most of the stuff was 50% off and he wanted you to confirm it for him 🙂
Honestly, I’m not that old but working nights for almost 19 yrs. now makes me feel like I’m twice my age sometimes. Kohl’s is my fav store, too. God bless sister Beth. Your post made me smile….okay, okay! laughed!!!
LOL – Rosel
I keep telling you…you shine with the love of Jesus, girl, and the friendliness makes you approachable.
Now that pic is hilarious! So glad for the laugh!
hehe. You do NOT look like a senior citizen. But you made me giggle
I’m with you – he probably was just asking the person he saw, which happened to be you. And you do look approachable. That is to say, some people give off that “leave me alone” feel about them, and you don’t have that.
Oh Beth…that is too funny. The good Lord only knows why he asked you.
You are beautiful and not old or old looking at allllllllll!
Hugs,
Mimi
ROFL. Thanks for the laugh, sister. Now, where’s the stretcher?
Yea, I’d have to say you misread him. It sounded like in all his excitement he did just indeed ask the very first person. One doesn’t have to be a SC to know when local stores have it. I use to know when Krogers was b/c a sweet co-worker always talked about it. I think it’s Wed. I think it’s Wed. at most places. Seriously, I don’t think he was thinking you should know b/c you are 55 but rather you are woman and womenn typically know everything…a wealth of knowledge.
You do NOT look like a senior citizen! LOL I agree with Tara. I’m sure he thought you looked very kind and that he could approach you to ask a question. Hehehe! This sounds like something that would happen to me…except for the fact that I’m getting close to being old enough to declare a senior citizen’s discount…for real!!! :o)
Love ya,
Beth
First of all, NO, you don't look old and YES, you look fabulous!!!
NOW, I'm sorry but I am one of those who is laughing her tail off! Sorry!
I would have probably tackled the guy in the parking lot if that had been me but since it wasn't…I'm still laughing 🙂
I LOVE YOU, BETH!!! <3
Humph!
smooches,
Larie
Yes it is funny, but you are probably correct he asked you because he was planning on bringing some sweet senior citizen friend or relative back to shop later in the day. You were likely the friendliest looking person around so he was drawn to you. Oh…I take that back, he was drawn to Jesus in you:)
Lol! Too funny! 😀 You definitely don’t look senior. 😀
That photo is hilarious!!!!! You’re only as old as you feel hun.
Funny Beth! Don’t feel too bad…My hubby often gets Senior Discounts..he is only 47 but with his (almost) white hair, YOUNG people think he is REALY old!
I hate to say this, but some guys are just clueless…meaning I’m sure he did not ask “you” because he thought you are a SC, but that you were right there and the first person to ask!
But you’re right..get behind her satan! It’s all warfare, girl!
Hahahaha! I’m so feeling your “pain.” I want somebody to ask me if my son is my brother but noone has done that, they all can tell he’s my son…sigh!
BTW, did you steal this photo of my hubby and I off my facebook?
I am sure that he was just posing the question to anyone that was in hearing distance. You certainly don’t look old Beth.
My poor husband has to put up with people mistaking me for his daughter. He is only 8 years older than I am, but the gray hair (his ) makes him look older.
Funny story.
Beth
Ok, I am rolling on the floor in laughter here. Thanks for sharing this sweetie, love you.

Oh, Beth, you don’t look old at all!!!
Ah yes, just like being called Ma’am. Up here they usually reserve that for the elderly, and I’ve been called that a few times!
i love the little people in the picture and that is too funny!!!
