I chose Misty Edwards’ song “The Wise and Foolish Virgin.” This isn’t a song that you would sing along with, but the words make you think. Please take a moment and listen to the entire song.
Matthew 25:1-13
1″At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
6“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
7“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
9” ‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
11“Later the others also came. ‘Sir! Sir!’ they said. ‘Open the door for us!’
12“But he replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’
13“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”
Beautiful, meaningful song. This parable is one that always puzzles me. I wonder, why not give to the foolish virgins? what does Jesus want to tell us by that?
I also stopped at those words: what owns you, and walk in the Light. There is so much confusion in our times. What is innocent, idle pleasure and what is not?
We were talking with my husband this morning about how much harder the times will become with the enslavement of microchips and mind control that is slowly poisoning us.
And I remembered that we were told at Sunday School that we should be ready to offer our testimony as the Saints did, if necessary. And i thought at the time: what? in our times? When we are free and Christianity is the status quo? How exagerated!
Why is it that I do not feel it isn’t, anymore?
There is so much darkness around us, so much pressure and fighting for our souls…
Thank you for sharing this song with us, and thank you for stopping by my place today. God bless you and your family.
I do NOT want to be like the unwise brides..I desire to be ready when our Lord comes…I’ve never heard this song before. POWERFUL…so filled with the Word of God….
Wow. Thank you for sharing that. I loved the lines that said “so busy shining their lamps they forgot the oil” ouch. And “give us some of your reality, your intimacy – but it doesn’t work that way – get to know Him for yourself”
Heading off to fill my lamp with oil…thank you…
Such a beautiful song and so profound.
Beautiful song! You are right …it makes you think!
Have a fabulous weekend!
I listened to your video earlier but got interrupted and didn’t comment. So, now I’m back to say it was good. It reminds me to be ready. The oil in the lamps is the Holy Spirit. I noticed the comment by Irene. Only those who are truly saved (and have the Holy Spirit within) will be ready for the bridegroom. We don’t know when Jesus will return or if we will die before that time. But the message is the same; don’t be foolish, be ready! And I guess the other message I get through this parable is to not waste the time until He comes.
Awake O sleepers! Great words! May we keep sharing the Lord to all since we don’t know who the sleepers are! The Lord is great and somehow he uses us in our silliness to share the biggest and best news-to God be the glory! Amanda:)
Great meaning in that song and so powerful. You are right, not one I could catch on quickly too and sing along…but her voice is beautiful and the words are awesome. Yet another one that I had never heard before.
Wow, such a great song.
