We have been promising our little princess that she could have a pink “big girl” room (bye bye obnoxious yellow paint!) and we are finally delivering on our promise. The painters arrived this morning and since this room is located near the front of the house, the painter is using our front door.
The use of the front door isn’t exciting news, but the reason it is important is because WE NEVER USE OUR FRONT DOOR. As I walked through our foyer I noticed all of the DUST that has been hiding in the dark! When the sunlight shone through the foyer, everything hidden was EXPOSED (to my embarrassment).
I immediately thought of the light of Christ that shines into our lives. We may think we have it all together until the light of Christ shines in and exposes our filthy rags!
1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.
There were times in my life that I WANTED my actions to be hidden in the darkness of night. I feared being exposed for who I really was and what I was willing to do to have my unmet needs “fulfilled” (though the fulfillment was counterfeit). Even as a Christian, I had so many unhealed areas in my life and God’s light made it clear! I am in a much healthier place now (thank the Lord), but even now I say some things that I’d rather stay hidden. Even my angry moments when someone is about to push my last button — I would never want anyone to see those reactions (or hear the thoughts in my heart).
John 3:20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.2 Samuel 22:29 You are my lamp, O LORD; the LORD turns my darkness into light.
Job 28:11 He searches the sources of the rivers and brings hidden things to light.
Job 33:28 He redeemed my soul from going down to the pit, and I will live to enjoy the light.
I am so thankful for the LIGHT that has been sent for our good! Without Jesus, we walk in darkness, unaware of our condition. We always have hope. What an amazing contrast to the dark! Light = truth and hope! Darkness = lies and deception.
Psalm 19:8 The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.Psalm 43:3 Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell.
So as we go through our day, I pray God will speak to our hearts about His light. I pray He will shine His light in our hearts to expose anything hidden so that healing can come.
John 12:46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
Hi Beth, this is a great post. God is the light of the world, no matter what, He’ll be there to guide us and protect us. It’s true, we all have our ugly sides, and sinful nature that make us afraid of the light sometimes. But we shall never shy away from His mercy, and shall focus on His light as we continue our path of life.
(it’s something I keep reminding myself as well)
God has blessed you with a beautiful family. Take care always.
Another ‘Thank you, Beth!’
I don’t know if it’s just me, but there seems to be something about this community of Godly Bloggers who are supportive in us all being real in our daighly walk (fight) of faith … being able to bring to light areas that used to be well guarded!
You are one of the most amazing shining stars in this! Full of loving support, compassion, empathy and so inspiritngly real!
God bless you!
How true this is! I think it’s so important to allow the Holy Spirit to shine His light and expose to us those hidden areas we may not want to deal with. But let’s get real; we all have them, even long time Christians. Sometimes it takes a dusty area of our home to reveal spiritual truths. Isn’t that cool? I hope your daughter enjoys her new pink room too.
Hi Beth, I just popped over to welcome you to the Christian Moms Blog Ring. Glad to have you 🙂

Hey Beth!
That was an amazing and powerful post. I have some of the same real life household dust bunnies that I want to keep hidden but better yet…I don’t want people to see the ugly devil bunnies that have occurred in my life when I am frustrated, angry and within the 4 walls of my own home. That is where we let our guard down sometimes, and God has to come along and discipline us…then we have to do the spiritual cleaning.
It is not a pleasant process but one that has to be done if we want to really live a life pleasing to Him.
Thank you for sharing your heart today. I needed that reminder.
((hugs))

You need to post before and after photos. Having one’s room redecorated is so exciting, especially for a special little girl.
Beth, this was beautiful and so true. It is my prayer that His light will shine brightly on the things that I need to work on! -blessings,Laurie
I’m rarely home when the sun is coming in, but when I am (like Sundays after church) I realize how those cobwebs hold every thing in place! I love the light, because I know where to dust! But best of all, Christ’s light gets me through these waaaay too short days and long dark nights in which I easily get hit with seasonal affective disorder – leaving in the dark and coming home in the dark. Thanks for this post – it was beautiful!
I loved your thought provoking words that spoke about what had been on my mind for a while. God has been gently breaking pieces away in my life that I had kept hidden and the peace and freedom I feel just keep me in awe of His grace and power!
