God bless everyone who works retail. I have never worked in retail or any business where I had to face the public on a daily basis. Oh my. If there are others like you reading this post — let me just tell you — BE THANKFUL. Ha.
Most people are sweet and want to pay the prices listed, etc … But then there is that special group of people who want to bend the rules, sneak through the gate, get something for nothing, etc …
As most of you know, my husband and I have a corn maze at our house this year. We were supposed to do one last year, but I had too much going on with a toddler and parents to even consider it. This year, my little one is in preschool, so it has worked out. With that said … I must confess that there are some characters in this neck of the woods (old sayin’ …. we really aren’t in the woods).
I am so grateful for each guest we have had, honest! And I know that everyone has a bad day, felt a little “off”, rolled off the wrong side of the bed. I know, I have days like that too. I am merciful with folks and I get it. HOWEVER, there are just some people … trying to choose my words carefully, who just come with an attitude and expect to bend the rules.
How many of you can go into a movie theater and enjoy the movie, then come back and say, “Can I bring this ticket back tomorrow because I didn’t get a chance to eat some pop corn?” Ha. I know, it sounds silly. Or how about this. Would you expect to walk into a theme park and say, “I’m not paying because I’m not going to ride any rides.” Yeah, that would go far. ha. It is that type of stuff.
This little group of people are sneaky.
I don’t want to say too much because I would certainly hate to offend anyone, but Father help me just smile and have mercy, mercy, mercy.
We have had around 1000 people come each weekend (thank You Lord). I am usually helping at the receiving area and rarely get a moment to venture through the maze. Yesterday, I actually GOT UP IN THE LIFT over the maze and made a little clip for you. I had hoped the music would drown me out, but sigh …
Have a great day everyone!
Beth,
Regardless of where you go in life, there will always be people who try to take advantage of situations and, as you said, you have to try and rise above and allow it to roll off your shoulders. Believe me, I know that's WAY easier said than done! I'm so happy to hear that your corn maze has been such a success! Have a blessed day, sweet friend!♥
I worked in retail for years and loved it. It was actually better dealing with the public than dealing with parents when I was in the education field. lol
Love the video that is awesome. What I find very interesting is that on one side of the street you have the burbs with the culdesacs and townhouses, then on the other side you have this huge farm. That is great.
What song is playing in the video? Love it!
Oh Beth, this was just wonderful….I'm praising God girl…It is amazing how many He is bringing to this maze..what precious blessings and abundance from His hand…
I really enjoyed this..thanks for sharing your life with us sweetie..love you!
I wish I could bring my family to visit the corn maze….looks like a lot of fun.
You very gracefully shared your frustrations. I can only imagine. Your analogies are great..we wouldn't go back asking to use our tickets again for theatre and such.
Enjoyed the video and the arial view…shows just how big it really is. Wow.
I feel for ya, girl! Thankfully, the good far outweighs the bad. 🙂
Have a great week!
Well I'll just say it…I hated working with the public in high school and experienced everything you are saying here. It taught me how to treat public/customer service workers though. Most times when I go out to a retail store or restaurant, I'm nicer to the people working than they are to me. We're coming to the maze – just how to figure out when!
How fun!
I don't like working with the public anymore after working as a waitress for a few years!
So true about people sometimes. So glad that the Lord is blessing your maze. Loved the pictures…what fun. That is a lot of corn my friend. We are going to go to one around here next weekend. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for sharing the fun these people had in your maze! There are always those "hard to love" kind of people but I think God places them in our paths so we, too can learn and grow in our character. Easier said than done 🙂
God bless you sister and I'm glad there were so many who saw your maze.
I understand. May God give you grace and make you as wise as a serpent & as gentle as a dove! I'm glad the corn maze is going well and people are enjoying it…but I must confess, I MISS you! Still, I pray blessings and much success. Love ya
Oh Beth can I ever relate to this! I worked retail jewelery sales for almost twenty years. ~WHEW!
I really enjoyed it but every once in a while their was that special type of customer and not in a good way. LOL! I "retired" about five years ago and don't miss it all.
My poor feet in high heels at Christmas… Yikes!
I came by to tell you I have officially changed my lifestyle to super healthy eating as of a few weeks ago. Check out my latest post if you have a moment. I feel so much better! Your weight loss story is always in the back of my mind. You are such an inspiration! Hopefully one day soon I will be showing my own before and after photos like you did my friend! Wish me luck!
~Blessings to you, ~Melissa 🙂
PS I'm grabbing your precious new button! Your corn maze is amazing!
Love the cute video too.
I am so glad that God is prospering you! I enjoyed the video. I guess you can say I'm the "customer service" gal in our office. People can be difficult sometimes..keeps me on my knees in prayer!
I would love to visit your corn maze. My kids would love it. I have witnessed all too often people trying to bartering their way through buying something. Doesn't make sense. OH, thanks for visiting my blog today. I follow you in Google Reader and never miss a post!
That looks like so much fun, but a lot of work too!
Bless you sis.
I know exactly how you feel! Hospitals have turned into nothing but a customer service business. It's very frustrating that the patients can just walk all over you.
Thanks for sharing your corn maze with us.
