I love the IHOP worship leader Misty Edwards. Her song entitled, “Inside out, upside down kingdom” (Servant of All on her Relentless album) captured my attention the first time I heard it.
Just think about it for a moment. In the kingdom of God, Matthew 20:16 states, “So the last will be first and the first will be last.”
Jesus said in Luke 9:48, “For he who is least among you all—he is the greatest.”
We must die to self to truly live! In Philippians 1:21, Paul states, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
We must humble ourselves to be lifted up. Luke 1:52 reads, “He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.”
What is done in secret gets the reward! This is certainly opposite from the ways of the world. In Matthew 6:6, Jesus instructs, “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6 verses 4 & 18 also show that we should pray and fast in “secret” so that God will reward us.
The world would say to strike back if someone hurts us. However, Jesus told us in Matthew 5:39 “But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.”
The world would say to hate our enemies, but Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:43-44).
We can be 80 years old, yet experience NEWNESS of life! 2 Corinthians 5:17 states, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” We use strange terms like “born again” that even confused Nicodemus in John chapter 3.
I AM GRATEFUL TO BE A MEMBER OF AN INSIDE OUT, UPSIDE DOWN KINGDOM. AREN’T YOU?
1 Peter 2:9 reads, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (Amplified Version)
Philippians 3:20 shows that “our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” (NIV) We are foreigners here on earth.
There are so many ways that we are aliens here in this world!
Just think about it — we eat the fruit of our lips.
Proverbs 18:20
From the fruit of his mouth a man’s stomach is filled; with the harvest from his lips he is satisfied.
We follow God’s example and as an act of faith, speak things that are not as if they were so.
Romans 4:17b
… God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.
We do battle in the spirit realm!
Ephesians 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
We use unearthly weapons!
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
I don’t know about you, but I believe more in the things UNSEEN than what I see in the natural.
Watch and you can hear the song “Servant of All” — and here are the powerful lyrics (that prompted me to write this blog):
I wanna be Your lover so show me how to go lower
For in the depths I will find You where You’re serving my brother
I wanna be with You where You are I wanna be with You wherever You are
I wanna be with You where You are You’re the servant of all
I’m in love with a king who became a slave
I’m in love with a God who is humble
You gotta go down if you wanna go up
And You’ve gotta go lower if you wanna go higher and higher
Well you’ve gotta hide and do it in secret if you wanna be seen by God
Cause it’s the inside outside upside down kingdom
Where you lose to gain and you die to live
I decided to revamp this post from 2008 — in case this seems a little familiar to my long time readers. Happy Thursday everyone!
I love this sis, thanks for sharing again.
your posts are always sooo encouraging…thanks Beth
I love this…..and thank you for reminding me of how awesome it is to be part of His upside down Kingdom!
love your blogs! How true, we are to be upside down and go turn our worlds…right side up. LOL We receive only to give, so neat!
very true! His ways are definitely not our ways. I've always thought that was the definition of holiness (He's completely opposite of our nature) Love the post, love you. Have a good weekend.
Haha..yes we are a peculiar people! But, I wouldn't change that for anything!
When a friend was getting tired to see how others seem to prosper yesterday when we were emailing each other, I reminded her of this…That not all who seems to be on top of this world will be up there in His Kingdom. She thanked the Lord for using me to encourage her. Now, you encouraged me as well. Thanks be to God! I'd rather not prosper here and suffer with Christ. Knowing that the best of the best is yet to come. Thank You Lord! God bless you sister.
Trying to die to self daily so that i can completely live for Him. Love this song…thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Mimi
