Boaz, Princess, and I were invited to a cousin’s wedding in Georgetown, SC this past weekend. We decided to leave on Thursday and spend some time in Charleston first. We had such a good time! We arrived in Charleston late in the evening — in the rain! Up ahead we saw lights up in the sky — then David informed me that we would be crossing that bridge!!!! I thought I would climb out of my skin. Why do bridges do that to so many of us? This is what I saw the first trip across the bridge. It was dark, and we were in the clouds. There were lights shining up the guide wires pointing to the sky. It was all just a scary blur. Then the next morning, I was able to get a better shot. The bridge is beautiful and the coolest part was the pedestrian walkway on the side. I really wanted to walk across it and get a HUGE workout! I can’t imagine the pain in my hamstrings walking up such an incline!
The next day, we headed to the aquarium in Charleston. Princess really enjoyed our visit (I did too!). The neatest attraction in any aquarium is the huge two-story tanks that they display. We got some great photos around the tank, but for the sake of this blog, I’ll just post one. The funny thing about touring in Charleston is a “money racket” they have going on. When we purchased our tickets to enter the aquarium, they had us stand in front of a green screen and took our picture. GOT’CHA!!! At the end of our aquarium visit — there stands a picture of us — only $26 for a big picture, three smaller, and some key chain/picture holders. lol Who can resist a picture of her kid? They know it too! They tried the same thing at the York Town, but we said “no” to the picture (wiser at that point). So, now we have a beautiful family shot that looks like we were standing in front of this beautiful tank in front of Princess. I love this picture of Princess and the fish looking into each other’s face. How cute is that? After we did the “aquarium thing” we went to the York Town. I wasn’t looking forward to this tourist attraction because I envisioned us climbing up and down narrow ladders and walking through narrow passages. We only did a couple of those paths, so it wasn’t too bad. Ha — I did embarrass myself (imagine that)! We met 3 older gentlemen as we were walking to the ship. They were wearing ball caps with military emblems on them. Being the grateful American, I thanked them for what they did for us. LOL … they looked at me, then at each other like “What is she talking about.” Boaz almost rolled laughing. I was so embarrassed! Oh well. ha ha Above is a pic of Princess on the York Town.
After the York Town, we enjoyed the beauty of historic Charleston. We didn’t bring our daughter’s stroller, and had walked her to pieces — so we didn’t tour the market and shops. But the architecture was amazing! I can’t imagine living in such a huge house (though it would be fun to try). After eating lunch at our daughter’s favorite place, Chick-fil-a, we headed to Boone Hall. Several movies were made there (or used different areas on the plantation). The house was a disappointment, but the main drive was beautiful. I also loved the garden behind the house. I would love to have a garden like that! I wish I had taken a picture of the funny little redneck “bus” driver who took us around the plantation. He was a hoot. Seriously, I wouldn’t have gotten on the “bus” (I don’t know what to call the homemade things we rode on) alone with this guy. He was nice though and was definitely a local. Here are some shots from the Boone Hall Plantation. We went through 3 or 4 rooms in the house as the tour guide filled us in on the history. There was also a tour with a lady dressed as a slave, but we missed the tour of the slave homes. I really hate that part of our history. There was a row of brick slave homes to the left as we approached the house. The picture of me and Princess in front of the tree was taken in the garden behind the house. Boaz and I also learned that these “living oaks” never lose their foliage. We didn’t know that!
After the long day in Charleston, we headed to Georgetown for the night. We met up with some family and had a great time eating out. I had one of the best pieces of Alaskan Salmon that has ever touched my lips! Yum! We went out with Dale and Tresa (Boaz’s 1st cousin and his wife) – and their kids Olivia and Dale III. It was fun to get out and Princess was such a good girl. She really enjoyed our trip and had a great time. I took this picture of downtown Georgetown. I thought it was a neat shot! We ate, then looked at the boats in the Marina, then headed to an ice cream shop (for everyone but me … argh).
The next day was a quick trip to Pawley’s island (which means BEACH for Princess). We got a few good pictures there and enjoyed seeing the beauty of the ocean. Ahhhh, I wish I could be there more often. Thanks to digital cameras, it is so easy to help preserve our memories. Here is a shot Boaz took of me and Princess by the ocean. She gathered up a bag full of seashells and has forgotten about them. I’m going to wash them and put them in some type of dish for her to enjoy.
After the beach came the wedding! That WAS the reason we headed south. Enjoy the pics below!
