Hello Friends, you have NO idea what a pain our current bedspread/comforter has been in my behind neck. Oh, not because it isn’t lovely or soft. I bought this comforter set a few years ago — thinking I would spruce up the looks of our bed. (And as a side note, this is the comforter that Elizabeth Dole saw as she used our room as a changing room — yay me. Shouldn’t that make it special for a good republican girl?)
Well, let me just tell you that my dear husband has whined, moaned, and complained about this comforter set since DAY ONE! Oh yes he has. It is too heavy, it doesn’t “breathe” like cotton, it slides off of the bed, etc … The list could go on and on.
So, back to the drawing board! I can’t take the complaining any longer!
I don’t know about you, but I was raised with George Washington bedspreads. I mean, what Southerner didn’t have these lovely bedspreads in her home? I have had them off and on throughout the years, but they are so expensive and I have a black and white cat — need I say more? (I just hate love that cat!)
Well, as I have searched through the local shops like “JC Penney, Belk, Sears” and others … I have been forced to search the Internet.
I bit the bullet and soon I will be receiving THIS in the mail.
Now my husband will have his beautiful bedspread back that “breathes” and it won’t slip off of the bed. I have ordered the lovely snow white color.
And Nan … at least you see one of the “before” shots of my bedroom. I’m going to attempt to find some matching nightstands. And I’d love to replace the picture above our bed (though my MIL painted that one). It is a winter scene and I’m ready for a change.
I love that new bedspread. Looks very crisp and fresh.
There's nothing like a good old fashioned bedspread in my book.
Just beautiful, Beth. I KNOW how you feel about those cozy bedspreads. Aaaahhhh.
My parents and grandma had bedspreads like that. I loved it then and still do. I love the poofiness of the old one, but sometimes you gotta stop and make hubby happy. Your fireplace is lovely too.
Hi Beth!
Just popped in from Much2Ponder's place to browes. Although your new beadspread looks nice, I must say I really like the old one better. However, I can understand the desire for change and the fact that it is too heavy. Don't throw it away just in case you and your Beloved end up missing it. Your bedroom looks lovely, almost like a bed and breakfast photo :0)
It's too bad that you can now only find nice bedspreads (which are NOT the same as comforters, I remind my dear hubby) online. I tried to help my grandmother find one in just about every store in the Raleigh area one Saturday afternoon – nothing was that nice, if we could even find a bedspread (NOT comforter, sweetie, LOL). I did find one that will do for me (it's not great or particularly pretty, but Leon likes that it's almost Carolina Blue). Unfortunately, I can't make the bed "correctly" because of my cat. He loves to sleep under the covers, on my pillow, and when I make the bed the way you're supposed to, he lays right on my pillow and covers it with cat hair. It's too much for me to be able to sleep on. So I have to have it just hanging so that I can tuck the pillows under the sheets. HA! But I do love my cat and wouldn't trade him for anything. Just the price I pay for cat love!
I bought a down comforter and a duvet cover when we redecorated our room and it was just too hot for the spring/summer so I bought a little toille one that is so much easier when making the bed.
I grew up on the Southern bedspread too. Maybe you can compromise to use it in the spring/summer and switch to the other in the fall/winter.
Just make sure you throw the sides up when you vaccum so the tassles dont get chewed …how many times I have done that in my life.
New bedspread, love it!
It reminds me of home. Mom always had theses on our beds.
Love the bedspread, but aren't ment funny about what they like! I grew up with those spreads too.
Mama just recently in the last couple of years replaced one of hers and had a really hard time finding one. Many of the traditional department stores like you mentioned had stopped carrying them, but I think she found one eventually at Belk. I'd love to know where online you found yours.
Take care and have a great day!!
Hold it, Missy! THE Elizabeth Dole used your room as a changing room? When did that happen and how?
Love your new bedspread…it will be PERFECT for a good night's rest!
Great Choice Beth! Just Beautiful!
"She quilts her own bedspreads." -Proverbs 31:22.
Thank God we can just buy 'em now…That's nice sister Beth. And may you have restful, "quiet" [no more complaining, I pray :)] sleep ahead of you. God bless. Have a wonderful week.
I really like your new bedspread, love the fringe on the bottom! Your hubby not complaining anymore will be the icing on the cake!
Have a blessed weekend!
Sorry the pics were so dark folks. I just realized my camera was on the ISO setting. Oops!
If you missed the Elizabeth Dole post — check it out. It happened a year ago!

Great bedspread but i could not choose white/light colors…i love the soothing look though
There is something nice about the good old George Washington bedspreads. We gals tend to like the fancier stuff but I think the new one will look great and will keep the hubby happy. 🙂
This brings back delightful memories of my childhood. I've been on the hunt for one of these at garage sales. I did get radically blessed in finding one that was a single, and cost me 1 dollar…I am using it for a table cloth in my diningroom..
Finally, some relief, huh? Good grief. 🙂
Did Elizabeth Dole really change her clothes in your room? What was she doing in your neighborhood let alone your house? How cool.
I haven't slept under my comforter in years. I always pull it to the end of the bed as to not mess it up since it's delicate with sown on ribbons.
Love,
Paula
DH might be wishing he had that thick comforter come winter! Domestications is a good source for bedding if he has issues w/ this one! Hope you both will like it!
Hey Beth! Love the new comforter. I hope your husband loves it too. I'm finally posting about our little outing. It took me long enough. Oh well, better late than never, right?
Love it. So homey and cozy. Now I thing he'll be happy with that and it'll be a breeze to clean. 🙂
It is really lovely sweetie.
It's a beautiful bedspread! I hope your hubby likes it. 🙂
Take some pics once you get the new bedspread on the bed!
wow!
by the way, i hope you grab my award for you at http://chrisamador.blogspot.com/2009/07/spread-love-award.html
You're the only one that I know who blogs about her bedspread!!!
And I love it 🙂 you crack me up with your daily musings!!!
Hope that bedspread is the answer to your husband's dream (and I hope his yapping will hush up now LOL!!)
I am familiar with your new spread. There was a guest room blessed with this very design in my teen years. Our solution to the slippery comforter and agitated husband resulted in the bedspread being second in linenext to the sheet and our lovely white down comforter on top. Now on a day when guests are in our home we set it up all spiffy and it looks nice, but we figured the sleeping thing out with no cost. haha
It's really pretty, i have not seen one before, I can see where it is much lighter.
Sounds like the perfect opportunity for a bedroom makeover. I do like your existing furniture.
Lovely room.

Why is it so hard to find the right bed covering? I can't stand comforters they are way too hot. I like quilts. I need to find a new one to go on our new king sized bed. But like you, I have the cat hair issue. So I am waiting to find just the right one. I might be waiting awhile 😉
Looks like a breather!
Very pretty "before" picture! My hubby says our comforter is to hot too.
I grew up with bedspreads like that! Looks like home to me!
Maybe you could just tuck the new one UNDER that beautiful old one and just slip the poofy one off at night so hubs is happy! I vote for the old one – but I'm all for compromise! Do both!
Blessings, Stephanie

I love your bedroom, Beth. You just gave me an idea on how to make ours, too, since we will be on our own soon. 🙂
I understand how you feel about your bedspread. I would whine, too.
May you have a blessed Sunday tomorrow. 🙂
I love your new spread! But I really like the old one too!
I hate to admit it, but we're still using the same comforter that we got when we got married 15 years ago.
I did get another one about 7 or 8 years ago, but it already has a hole in it and it's not as warm as the old one. I usually put the newer one on in the warmer months, but I haven't yet. Not sure why.
Your pain in the neck one is beautiful. Elizabeth Dole changed in your room? How did this come about and when?
Your new one is pretty and reminds me of the ones from way back when. It'll be perfect.
Have a great week,
Nannette
Very nice!
Welcome to SITS! It's great to have you in the SITStahood!
I have one like that on our guest bed. It used to be on our bed, but I went for a comforter with shams. My hubby doesn't like it either because it slides off the bed. I may need to switch them back.
Blessings my friend.
BTW, I'm having a one day give away today (Monday). Stop by if you get a chance.
What a pretty new bed spread. I don't do light colors or white with my kiddos! Maybe in a couple of years! Stopping by from SITS to say hi & welcome aboard. Have a great day.
Lovely bedspread and thanks for sharing. Visiting from SITS.
