Today Bonnie, The Faith Barista, asked us write with this prompt: A Letter to God.
Do you ever write letters to God? I have written to God in my journals for years though it wasn’t until a recent dream that I decided to entitle a journal, “Letters to God.” I was actually instructed to do so.
There is just something different about putting my prayers in writing. One reason is I have proof of what I asked for … as in the example I am sharing below. Another reason is I hope that my daughter will consider my journals a treasure someday.
Since I do keep my prayer journal near me, I write letters to God on a consistent basis. I decided I would just share some exerts.
Most of my letters are way too personal to post here, but pieces like this are usually found within:
From August 11, 2012:
Father, I am so thankful for Your mercy, forgiveness, and love. Where would I be without You? Lord, You alone helped me when I had no one else. There was no one I could run to through the many years of torment.
Your Spirit taught me so much. I still need more and more wisdom and revelation from Your Holy Spirit.
Yesterday I was praying in the Spirit when all of a sudden in English I said, “I want to know what love is. I want You to show me. I want to feel what love is …”
Father God, create in me a pure clean heart. I don’t want to grieve You. I love You Lord.
This is from a letter I wrote on August 14, 2012.
Father, I am going to soaking at TWC today. I am excited and I go with great expectation in meeting You there!
I just want to meet with You Jesus. Would You show Yourself to me in new ways today? I want to walk with You and see parts of heaven. I’m excited!
Lord, You were here for me when I had nobody else to turn to … You gave me wisdom how to overcome. You taught me — yet I still have so much to learn! I’m hungry! Please show me. Please teach me. I come today with excitement!
I need to be dipped and bathed in Your precious love.
Change me Lord. Change me for Your purposes …
The letter goes on, but is too personal to share. I wrote this note the morning before I went to soaking. It was during that soaking session that I saw Jesus sitting across the river on the bank. He came over to me and began to swing me around like a child and HE WALKED WITH ME. It was a direct answer to the prayer above “I want to walk with You and see parts of heaven.”
Do you write letters to God? If not, perhaps you should give it a try. <—- Tweet This.
God loves us and wants to hear from us. He is the Vine and we are the branches. We need to communicate with our Father in heaven.

So glad you joined in Beth. It is hard to reveal our prayers to others. Thank you for sharing yours.
Blessings and love,
Debbie
Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed this blog. I used to write letters to God all the time and I think I will start again. That is a great way to pray and the best thing is that when you are writing or typing you are not going to fall asleep or day dream. You may enter a area of prayer where at times you don’t know what you are writing but you always return refreshed and so joyful for being in the presence of Jesus. I’ve been led to pray for people for healing before we found out they were critically or terminally ill. I knew then that prayer was my biggest ministry. So I have to start this again!!
I go through seasons of writing out my prayers, but haven’t done it consistently lately. Your prayers are beautiful, Beth, because they reflect your heart of dependence upon the Lord. Thanks for giving us a peek into your personal journals with him. It encouraged me today.
I am like you I write out my thoughts and prayers to God regularly in a journal. Thank you for sharing your heart with us in the Faith Jam.
Hey Beth,
It’s been a minute since we’ve connected. I pray all is well with you and your family. I know we connect some times on FB. Been praying for you whenever you come to heart.
I loved this post…it resonates with how I live. I’ve journaled for many years (prayers, praises, problems, thoughts, etc.) and I enjoy it. I also love looking back at something and being able to say, Praise God for answered prayer or Praise God for the strength to press through “that” and so on.
Keep writing and sharing your heart with Him. Blessings and love!
I write out snippets but not complete letters. What’s “soaking”? Makes me think of thermal springs and then my joints and bones go Ahhhhhh!
