I am so proud of myself. I felt like I could hold my head high as I pushed my grocery cart out to my big gas guzzling Suburban.
Yes, I did it — finally. I purchased some Harris Teeter reusable grocery bags. Am I green or what? Well, at least my eyes are …
I purchased about 6 or 7 of these cute little bags pictured to the right. Surely it would take at least 7 to get a cart load full of groceries bagged wouldn’t it?
Well … guess what? When I unsnapped this cute little bag I was surprised! Do you see how big this tiny little bag suddenly became? Ha. The size of these bags are a bit of a problem. When I shop, the cashiers fill them up! I can barely lift them out of the cart. Well, at least I’m working out my biceps, right?
I finally went green where my grocery bags were concerned and what did I hear on the news last night? The reusable bags can make families sick. Oh for crying in the rain. Surely, people have enough sense to wash their bags if they carry meat and it leaks. Ick.
Now, if I can just make myself start recycling bottles and cans. I finally stopped purchasing bottled water. I’m sure I have purchased enough on my own to fill up a dump truck. Now I use one of those Brita water pitchers. I really like it.
So I’m getting there — one tiny step at a time I suppose.
According to a Harris Teeter web site: A reusable bag can replace almost 1,000 plastic bags over its lifetime, so do your part!
Do you use the reusable shopping bags? I even saw some that have dividers so that wine bottles can stand. Uh, no need for those here, but interesting.

We have to recycle religiously, we are limited to one garbage can a week, so that means anything we can recycle we do so to cut down on that. Those bags are great for groceries as well as bags to carry toys in when going on trips. lol
Happy recycling.
Good job girl! We have been using those types of bags for quite some time now. I don't know at your place but if you don't bring bags to the grocery store, they sale the plastic bags for 5 cents a piece.
Yepper, they sure do hold a lot of stuff. Just realize how wonderfully 'ripped' your going to be girl logging those things around, lol.
the pics from your porch have always just taken my breath away. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Good jog on the going green. I have been wanting to buy one of those Brita water things!! I too, have purchased a ton of water bottles.
I do want to move where you live though, I want a view like that!!
I never can remember to take the bag or two I have. I feel like a dog carrying my groceries out in plastic bags too. I heard that on the news last night. Duh!!
Congrats on going green! Yes, I use the recyclable bags, when I remember to bring them with me. They are great!
I did use those bags until I began forgetting to take them out of my car. Also the checkers at the store would always forget to give the 5 cents back on the checkout – got so frustrating. Using more paper bags these days instead. Bought cards that are made from a special plant that produces woodlike pulp for paper making. They are realy pretty cards too!
Love the view! Wow!
Blessings, Stephanie
You are too funny Beth!
I have some special bags I purchased but I keep forgetting to bring them with me when I go shopping. Duh…
As soon as we change one behavior there's something on the news telling us that causes something else. What's a girl to do?
Oh, I almost forgot. That view is fabulous!
Love you,
Debbie
Woo Hoo, great job sis.
Good job! I haven't bought any of these yet but really believe that I need to!
I have reusuable bags, but I always forget to take them to the store! Mine arent as big as those though. I still use the plastic ones for meat.
I still buy bottled water, but they are stored for in case of emergency.
I need to learn to recycle more things though. Especially since we are forced to pay monthly for trash and recycling in our town even if you don't use it
Thanks for sharing them with us.

I'm so far behind on blog reading that jelly shoes are back in vogue.
Couldn't help but post that I LOVE your view from the mountain house. There is nothing more peaceful than the mountains and cows to me. Makes Grandma's front porch the perfect place for quiet time and devotion.
Hope all is well! And, if you take those awesome bags to Target, they give you a little money back.
