For those of you who don’t live in North Carolina, you may not be aware of our wonderful TAX FREE weekend! We get this lovely weekend each year before traditional school starts.
I like to take advantage of this time of year to purchase a new computer (if needed). Well, just last week I found out our older lap top was about to crash. The hard drive was hanging by a proverbial thread … so guess what I did?
I worked out early yesterday (yep — finished week 6 of the Couch-to-5K plan), dressed our Princess, and made it to the mall 30 minutes before the doors opened. I know — I know — but I wasn’t PLANNING to do this. It was a last minute idea.
When we arrived at the Apple store, there were at LEAST 100 people in line ahead of us. (We walked to the very end of this line.)
Long story short — two hours later I became the owner of a MacBook Pro. It is very light and cute (I must say).
I have NEVER owned a Mac (once called Macintosh). I’ve always been a PC girl. Big fan of Windows … really saw no reason to walk over to the dark side (ha). Dark because it was unknown to me.
So, I brought my new toy home and started reading through the instructions. May I make a suggestion to Apple? Most new Apple users have been using a PC, therefore PLEASE let one of your first pages explain how to operate the finger pad!
Did you PC users know that when you “click” — you know, by tapping your fingers on the “pad” on your lap top — is TOTALLY DIFFERENT on a Mac?!?!? I ended up calling the Apple Care people because my cursor was moving, but I couldn’t “click” on anything. Well, well, well … guess what? You have to push the pad down with your finger to make it CLICK. Literally — it clicks, like a button. Seriously, that should be explained on first page in BIG PRINT. :o) I am about to put a dent in my PC now as I prepare this post (note to self — I don’t need to CLICK on PC!).
So far, I really don’t see what the big deal is about a Mac. I’ll keep you posted.
I DO see that the movie maker is much better than the Window’s version. That should make my youtubes more exciting. That is one advantage I suppose. And yes, the technical support put the others to shame. Over the years when I had to call the D_ _ l company (ahem, rhymes with BELL), I spoke with someone whose native language was different than mine and we could barely understand one another. Apple reps rock!
Ok, so all of you Apple lovers, tell me some of the features that I’ll love.
(Have a great weekend everyone!)
Welcome to the world of Mac! I destest Microsoft (AKA Microdeath!). The biggest difference that you will find is a more stable operating system. No more crashes or blue screens of death. I work with Microsoft at work and am always having problems! It's nice to come home and have a trouble free computer. My favorite things about my Mac is my mobileme account and iPhoto. LOVE iPhoto!!!! I hope you will eventually get use to it and enjoy it! Have a great weekend!
My dad is talking about getting a Mac. Once you figure everything out, let me know how you like it so I can tell him. I've never used one.
My Mother-in-law was in that line briefly yesterday – she wanted an IPad, but didn't feel like fighting the crowd. She asked if she would still get it tax free if she ordered it online, and they said yes.
Enjoy! Love ya
Congratulation on contributing to the riches of Bill Gates. LOL
New computers are fun. Enjoy this new and exciting journey.
Love you!
Congrats sis.
Good luck on your journey to the land of the Mac. Is it compatible with PC's you might have at home?
Hi Beth,
It is always so exciting to get new computer! Enjoy!
My laptop is not performing too well now and I would like a new one. The keys stick despite cleaning!!
Enjoy your day.
Blessings and hugs.
I cannot stand using my finger with the pads so always stick a mouse on it. Waiting to see how the Mac shapes up, never used one so will be interesting.

How cool!!!!
There is a way you can change it so you don't have to click the button and can simply tap your fingers on the track pad. Email me and I can tell you how if you want. Give it some time. But I know you will fall in love quickly!
I've heard good things about the MAC but I've only had experience with a PC.
Let me know if it's worth it after you get more familiar with it.
Blessings and love,
Debbie
I had conidered going this weekend to get a laptop….I would love one!! But alas, I never did….so I guess it wasn't "that" important to me…yet this weekend was definitely the time to buy one!

I have a couple of friends who "swear" by the MAC, but I've always been a PC gal and likely always will. I guess I'm just too familiar with it and the thought of learning another OS scares me. :o) Enjoy your new computer!
