I’m really not trying to pick on my husband — honest I’m not. He just makes it so easy for me!!! I really do want to honor him. He is the head of this household and is a wonderful daddy, husband, and provider … but (you heard that one coming didn’t you?) …
This morning, our daughter climbed in our bed at 4:11am. Of course, once I’m awake — that’s it — I must get up.
As soon as her breathing got heavy, I so carefully slid off my side of the bed, tip toed oh so easily so that nothing would pop or creak … and gently made it to our den. A little while later I heard my husband banging around in the shower. I heard the big bar of soap CLUNK in the floor — then came the sound of the sliding glass shower door slamming into the frame — then “Boaz” yelling, talking loudly (he has always been around loud equipment and doesn’t know how loud he talks) on his Nextel (yes, like a walkie talkie that goes BEEP BEEP each time he touches the little button on the side)! I just assumed our daughter was wide awake because he wasn’t making the slightest EFFORT to be quiet.
I heard him scrape all of his change off of the dresser! Along with the change of course are his KEYS, POCKET KNIFE, EAR PLUGS … everything a good ol’ boy carries in his pockets all day. Nothing quiet mind you! Still, BEEP BEEP then blah blah blah as he talks with the NC DOT about the road conditions (snowing here). “Surely Princess is wide awake and playing with our cat” I thought!
Then dear hubby stomps in here, walks passed me and goes to let the dog out — forgetting to turn off the alarm! SCREECHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Then after he does that, he sweeps up something and drops the broom with the metal handle on the hard wood (looking) floors. CLANG!
So cleaverly I said, “Boaz, would you like to break some dishes on the floor before you leave?” I don’t think he appreciated that comment. Can we say BULL IN A CHINA SHOP?!?!?!
Ok, someone send me all of the scriptures about honoring my mate — my man — my spiritual leader. Oh my …
And all of this happened before 5:45am. Oh, and by the way — it is 6:18am and Sarah is still sleeping! Amazing.
ummm…”Make a joyful noise unto the Lord” comes to mind! 🙂 too funny. -Laurie
Ha! Love Laurie’s comment!
I loved your post. Too true!
My husband’s a teacher. All it took was one summer of being home with me and the girls and he understood why it was so important to be quiet in the morning. 🙂
Tom is loud in the morning too. I’ve worked on trying to get him to quiet down. It just doesn’t work.
Oh…that’s funny. So glad your precious girl stayed asleep during the whole ordeal.
I just wanted to stop by and thank you for your sweet comment on my blog. So glad you found me too!!!
Now we’ve found each other. Cool!
As far as scriptures to honor…the one that comes to mind is Phil 4:8 “If ANYTHING is excellent or praiseworthy, think on these things.” (emphasis mine). Sometimes you have to DIG for the excellent thing, girl!!!!
~Your hubby was getting ready for work to support the family
~He makes enough money to provide a warm bed, a house with a den, a cell phone, an alarm clock, a warm shower, soap, AND spare change!!!
How’s that????
Blessings,
Sandy
Oh My…I think our husbands may have been brothers. Mine is so loud too! Thanks for the laugh!
Why am I not surprised? Is he the DOT connection there? We got almost no snow. Glad I drove back 5 hours for this! :O) They probably had more AT the beach!
Greetings, Beth!
So nice to “meet” you! Thanks for stopping by and following my blog- now I was able to find you!
This was TOO funny! I also thought of the psalm, “make a joyful noise!”
Did you do some mighty praising that your precious daughter slept through it all??? 🙂
This story reminded me of a past post… I included the link if you would like a chuckle..

Blessings!
It must be a “guy” thing because I live with two of them. In the mornings, late at night, when I’m trying to take a nap or even, when I’m sick. They don’t know what quiet is…they rough house, yell, laugh, slam, bam things…grrrrr! I, on the other hand…tip toe around with either one of them are sleep, easing doors shut, not doing anything that makes noise and shhhhhh…anyone else that happens to be around.
So…I know the feeling!
I loved it! Sorry…hubby if we are picking on you guys 🙂
((hugs))
Jenn
The more I get to know you, the more I realize how alike we are (besides our name)! Can you believe it? I, too, am “wide awake” if anything wakes me up during the night. Oh, and I have a floor that pops and creaks. Also, my hubby’s hearing’s not the best…his is due to loud rock music in this college years, though! haha
Praise God for the blessings they are and the joy they bring to us!
Too funny! Every morning as my husband leaves the house I think “please don’t slam the door on the way out”. Sometimes my son sleeps through it. Other times not so much!
