I attended the funeral of my 96 year old Aunt yesterday. She died on her 96th birthday! What a present — meeting Jesus face to face!
I enjoyed learning more tidbits about my Aunt Mildred at her memorial service! I had no idea that she was one of the first women in her church ordained as a deacon! I never knew she was so active in her church and in her faith. I should have KNOWN — duh — all of her kids had biblical names (except her oldest). This Aunt always lived a couple of hours from me except for a couple of years, so I never knew her on an intimate level.
One of her daughters, Sarah, was a missionary for years and is an ORDAINED minister. Now she is a chaplain for Hospice.
It blessed me to know that there were other ordained women in my family. I was ordained as a lay pastor several years ago (before that church decided women couldn’t be pastors — a different story all together). My parents were never active in church, so it has been such a blessing to find out about other family members who loved God and lived their lives to serve the Him. I had another Aunt who died a few years ago and I found out that she raised her children to serve God too. It just makes my heart rejoice! Surely I had some godly ancestors — some grandparents who prayed for their children’s children. (This picture was taken of me in the mountains this weekend. I love the clouds!)
Ok, onto the business at hand. :o) Each Monday I link with Beth at The Power of Your Love to memorize God’s Word. Will you join us?
Last week’s verse:
Proverbs 11:30
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.
I must confess that I want to finish out that sentence with “and he who eats of it is wise.” But … I am guessing I shouldn’t re-write God’s Word!
It has only been by the grace of God that I have planted seeds for His Kingdom over the years. I just have a hunger inside of me to know Him better. I can’t help myself.
This week’s memory verse:
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
What a wonderful scripture to stand on during this time in our history.
Please hop over to The Power of Your Love for a visit.
I'm sorry for the passing of your Aunt. But how special that you got to learn so much more about her amazing life.
I know how you feel about godly ancestors. I've been so thankful for my grandparent's influence on my spiritual life. My parents were more rebellious when we were growing up. I guess it' like many in the Bible. The parents were serving God and then their childen did not. I think of Samuel who loved and served the Lord but his sons didn't.
I think that's also why it's so important to pray for the next generation. BTW, I LOVE this photo of you. I'm sorry for your loss but glad that she's with Jesus and you will see her again.
What a beautiful tribute to your aunt. Thanks for sharing her with us.
I'm sorry that your Aunt passed away! Wow… 96 years old! That is amazing. What a blessing to know that she loved the Lord and is with him now.
That is a great picture of you!
The passing of your dear aunt is definitely heavens gain.
Awww…I'm sorry to hear about your aunt–but what better birthday present is this?? Meeting Jesus on the day you were born!! WOW!!!
Ancestors–I wish I knew more about mine–most were gone when I was born and there are few left in my family now. So, we are starting anew with a new family–newest member to be born in November–my first grandchild….hopefully finding out today–boy or girl?? Just praying for a full term healthy baby. Not good timing in my mind, but then again–God's timing is perfect so who am I to say??
Thanks for joining in the Weekly Memory Verse!! Enjoying learning and studying with you!!
