Last night I had a conversation with a friend about cleaning our homes spiritually.

Have you ever heard of this?

I shared with her an example from my own life and I thought I should share with you as well.   Years ago, probably back in the early 90’s, I had asked the Lord to show me things in my home that grieved Him.   I didn’t want ANY open doors that the devil could use to enter my home.   To my surprise the Lord immediately gave me direction, “There is a Cosmopolitan magazine in the bottom of a trunk.”  Huh?  Surely I made that up!

You may wonder why a Cosmopolitan was an open door.   For me, the main reason was because back before God started opening my eyes to the spirit realm — I read horoscopes.   Each year I would get the Cosmopolitan magazine on the month of my birthday to really get a big write-up on my zodiac sign.  Blech!!!  I can’t even believe that was me, but it is true.

Did I find this magazine?  Yes!  Just as the Holy Spirit said … in the bottom of a trunk.   My husband and I once used an antique trunk as a coffee table.  At the time, the trunk had been moved into our spare bedroom.   I began to dig through that trunk full of books and at the VERY BOTTOM of the trunk sat the Cosmopolitan magazine!  I was excited that I had actually heard correctly!   I repented and disposed of the book.

That was just one of many things I have had to rid my house of over the years!

To quote Chuck Pierce, “If we do not understand spiritual life, we will not be able to see where death has established itself in our homes.”

Can you think back of all of the times in the Old Testament when God told the Israelites to DESTROY the items that were used in pagan worship?   There was a reason!  The items were just objects, but they had something demonic about them.

The same thing goes for items that you might have purchased while traveling.  Is it some type of ceremonial mask used in Africa by a witchdoctor?  Maybe a drum used for some type of pagan ceremony?  Perhaps it is something more attached to this culture like tarot cards or demonic looking symbols worn around your neck.

I had a dear friend who was cleansing her home.   She was removing a huge bag of heavy metal CD’s (or maybe they were tapes from back in the 80’s).   Her husband thought she was nuts and was not happy with her.  The bag was too heavy for her to carry out that night so she left it back her back door.   Well guess what happened?  The husband changed his mind when he heard moaning come from that bag of inanimate objects!

Yes, it is real.  The devil never plays fair and is always going to enter a Christian’s home whatever way he can.

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Chuck Pierce shares in his book Protecting Your Home from Spiritual Darkness how God set his wife free from depression.  I will share an excerpt concerning this:

Cathy often suffered from bout of deep, overwhelming depression.  Despite counseling and prayer, we could not seem to discover the source of her constant gloom.  (They begin to look through their home through the leading of the Holy Spirit.)   Chuck said, “I reached up to the top shelf and pulled out a copy of the handbook for the thirty-second-degree Mason.  Cathy had no idea where the book had come from or that it was in her home.   I knew that the book had to be destroyed, so we built a fire and burned it.  That act was a turning point in Cathy’s life.  It set in motion a chain of events that led to the breaking of a Masonic curse in her bloodline.  As the curse was broken, the gripping, overwhelming depression that had been Cathy’s constant companion completely let go of her mind, and she walked in freedom ever since.”   Page 10

Chuck shares this list of potential symptoms of a spiritually polluted atmosphere in your home.   But remember, GOD IS MUCH GREATER!  This post is not meant to cause fear but to EXPOSE some of the devils schemes.

• Sudden Chronic illness
• Recurrent bad dreams and nightmares
• Insomnia or unusual sleepiness
• Behavioral problems
• Relational problems – continual fighting, arguing and misinterpreted communication
• Lack of peace
• Restless, disturbed children
• Unexplained illnesses or bondage to sin
• Demonic apparitions (to which young children are particularly susceptible)
• The movement of physical objects by demons
• Foul, unexplainable odors
• Atmospheric heaviness, making it hard to breathe
• Continual nausea and headaches

Remember,  Jesus gave us authority over these beings.

Luke 10:19
I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
