Do you ever feel like you just don’t fit in?
My friend and I were just discussing how hard it is to find other couples to hang with who share the same beliefs and convictions. The world just seems to get darker.
Since it was a rainy Saturday, I decided to take our daughter and a friend to see the movie Mirror Mirror. I looked at the reviews online to make sure it was suitable for a 6 year old, so I felt fairly safe (even though I didn’t know there was a scary beast near the end of the movie), however, what can we do about the movie PREVIEWS? First there was a preview (at this PG movie) of a new Johnny Dark Depp movie. Guess what? Another Vampire movie! Argh. The trailer showed some very dark scenes. As a witch turned him into this “creature” blood ran down from his eyes. Just the visual a child needs. Right?
I totally see that satan wants to desensitize children where darkness is concerned. I heard a lot of laughter from the people in the audience — kids included. I sat there, disgusted! He has definitely succeeded in numbing a lot of people where darkness is concerned. It is an epidemic.
Then we were graced with a different movie trailer that was dark. It was about a boy named Norman who is friends with dead people: ParaNorman. Before we knew what to expect the children had already been subjected to dark subject matter.
It really bothered me!!! The little girl’s Mom trusted me to take her daughter to the movies and within minutes she had seen plenty of demonic scenes. My daughter covered her eyes and looked down, but the other little girl looked at every scene with her eyes wide open. Sigh. I wanted to take both of them out of there.
I had a talk with the girls after we left and explained how we need to be careful to guard what we see and hear.
I expect to see this wicked mess as we approach October 31st, but in March? What does that say?
I have friends who raised their kids reading Harry Potter and friends who even read that Twilight vampire stuff, so I know there are Christians who don’t feel the way I do.
It is a lonely feeling I suppose. But after dealing with the demonic, I know how crafty the enemy of our souls is — and how he gets a grip in our lives. If all Christians were in the business of casting out devils, they would know the danger of dabbling in this stuff and would close the door to it. I’m sorry, but it really angers me that innocent children are subjected to this demonic mess. I guess we will need to start entering the movies after the trailers are finished.

For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
Do you remember in Luke when Jesus came face to face with the man bound by many demons? When they saw Jesus, they recognized that they had NOTHING in common with them.
Luke 8:28-29
And when he saw Jesus, he raised a deep (terrible) cry [from the depths of his throat] and fell down before Him [in terror] and shouted loudly, What have You [to do] with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? [What have we in common?] I beg You, do not torment me!For Jesus was already commanding the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For many times it had snatched and held him; he was kept under guard and bound with chains and fetters, but he would break the bonds and be driven by the demon into the wilderness (desert). AMPLIFIED VERSION.
The demonic would prefer us to have something IN COMMON with them. Since there was NO darkness in Jesus — He easily cast all of them out.
It is imperative that we guard our eyes and ears. Remember the little nursery song, “Oh be careful little eyes what you see?” There is a reason for that warning. Once these images enter our eyes, we can recall them with no problem. They change what we understand and they change our dreams.
God instructs us what to keep in our minds:
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to see, hear, or read demonic material. NO GOOD can come of it. If that is entertainment, then as for me and my family, we will do without.

Awesome post! I can’t even begin to tell you how nice it was reading your post today on FB. I have really been struggling with isolation due to I refuse to compromise on these issues and its not making me popular- nor my children. At times lately I really have considered merging in just so that were not Alone. This was strengthening, Thanks!
Yes, it does bother me very much…I have grandchildren the ages of 7, 5, 3 and it makes me very sad some of the stuff at movies as well as tv that they are exposed to….The really sad thing about that paronoman movie is that it is a cartoon and some parents think if it’s a cartoon what could be wrong so many children will see out of their parents ignorance…..

Wow..so sad. The good news is that your little one knew to cover her eyes. She’s being raised to know good from evil and won’t be dull in her senses.
I completely agree. We no longer have young children, but I don’t appreciate seeing those things MYSELF!

You have hit it on the head! I have to agree with everything you said. I don’t like how easily things are put in front of our kids. I let Elle watch Nick Jr sometimes and to think at least that would be safe. No. Franklin the Turtle was on and I was doing dishes and all of a sudden my daughter ran out of our room yelling she was scared. At 10 am. NOT NORMAL. I walk in and there was a demonic face..

I couldn’t believe it. They were trying to teach kids there is nothing to be afraid of but in doing so created fear in my child. Ugh.

I totally agree Beth! I found that even kids tv has some pretty disturbing commercials as well. I have limited my kids to only watching channels with no commercials or shows that have been recorded and commercials can be forwarded through. You are not alone in your way of thinking. Just wish others felt more like us.
