Ahhhh, good ol’ North Carolina weather. Yesterday we really got a sense of AUTUMN in the air. We actually had to wear long pants and light jackets. Heaven I tell you, just heaven! It was drizzling rain, cool breeze … love it! Of course, it wasn’t great for business, but who cares — it felt like AUTUMN.

Autumn, or “fall” as we call it around here, is one of my favorite times of the year. Thinking back to my childhood, I can still hear a chainsaw running in a distance — you know, the echo through the crisp cool air. I remember helping my daddy stack wood for the winter (not that we heated our house WITH the wood, but enjoyed our fireplace as a luxury).

At the young age of seventeen I began to date my husband this time of year. We dated for six months, broke up and reunited IN THE FALL when I was twenty. Of course, we MARRIED in the fall when I was twenty-two. So you see, I love this time of the year.

Pumpkins! Who doesn’t love the look of a pumpkin? Here is a tiny bit of trivia for you. According to my research, a pumpkin is a member of the squash family! Though squash are vegetables, a pumpkin is considered a fruit. Very strange. I always wondered and now I know.

Nothing says fall like lovely harvest decorations: pumpkins, bales of hay, mums, scarecrows, Indian corn, and corn shucks. From the time my husband and I married I began to decorate our farm each fall. Not so much the Halloween stuff, just harvest. I’m not into ghost, witches, skeletons, etc … Just rich colors that represent what God created and what represents harvest time.

Ok, so I’m rambling, but you can tell that I love, love, love cool weather and this wonderful season!

To Pumpkins at Pumpkin Time by Grace Cornell Tall

Back into your garden-beds!
Here come the holidays!
And woe to the golden pumpkin-heads
Attracting too much praise.

Hide behind the hoe, the plow,
Cling fast to the vine!
Those who come to praise you now
Will soon sit down to dine.

Keep your lovely heads, my dears,
If you know what I mean…
Unless you want to be in pie,
Stay hidden or stay green!!

I hope you can enjoy the beauty of fall where you are. To God be the glory — the Creator of heaven and of earth. He has given us such beauty to behold!

Have a blessed Saturday my friends!
